Exercise Caution If Betting Trump’s State Of The Union Odds

Published on February 20, 2026

Consider exercising caution if you’re betting on websites offering odds on President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Feb. 24.

Platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket offer gambling on what Trump will say during the speech. This type of wagering is called a mention market. It involves which words or phrases will come out of his mouth. These gambling platforms facilitate “yes” and “no” bets on a long list of mentions.

You may also find bets on the length of his speech and the color of his tie.

Insider Betting Odds

Trump’s son invested in Polymarket and advises Kalshi, so there’s already a conflict of interest.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission regulates prediction markets, but there is no mechanism to prevent people with inside knowledge of Trump’s speech from leaking it to bettors.

In other words, if you’re just a regular person, you would be at a disadvantage against people who may or may not have insider information on the State of the Union.

Prediction markets are peer-to-peer, which means you compete against others.

State of the Union Betting Addiction Risk

Prediction markets also have the potential to be highly addictive. Many experts and states have warned about the risks of using prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket.

Let’s look at a recent example of a prominent public figure who points out the risks. In February, Governor Spencer Cox of Utah issued a statement on federally regulated prediction markets.

“These prediction markets […] are gambling—pure and simple,” he said. “They are destroying the lives of families and countless Americans, especially young men.”

Much attention has been paid to prediction market sports betting, but all their offerings are potentially addictive and harmful. This includes niche events such as State of the Union betting odds.

Never use a prediction market with the intention of making a living or becoming rich. Call 1-800-GAMBLER if you are concerned about your play.
