In a new advertisement promoting the prediction market platform Kalshi, actor Timothee Chalamet is seen slamming his head into a ceiling.

The advertisement was posted to Chalamet’s Instagram account on June 12. The ad does not depict Chalamet using the product, which facilitates betting on sports and virtually countless real-world events. Kalshi is regulated by the federal government.

In the part of the advertisement where Chalamet is engaged in apparent self-harm, the Kalshi branding appears on the screen.

Online gambling products raise a person’s risk of non-suicidal self-injury, according to a study in the journal Comprehensive Psychiatry.

Many other studies have established the link between gambling and suicide.

The response to Chalamet’s Kalshi post was met with widespread criticism.

Chalamet, 30, has appeared in films such as Interstellar, Dune, and Wonka.

Kalshi in May announced a $2 million investment in the gambling-industry-funded National Council on Problem Gambling.
