Trump Teleprompter Allegedly Cheated Kalshi Users
A teleprompter operator for President Donald Trump allegedly used his inside knowledge to illicitly profit more than $100,000 gambling on what Trump would say.
According to ABC News, Gabriel Perez allegedly used the prediction market Kalshi to place bets on numerous public speeches by Trump.
So-called “mention markets” feature gambling on what public figures will say in public appearances. They are notoriously vulnerable to insider trading.
His alleged profits came at the expense of other users, as Kalshi is a peer-to-peer platform.
Conflicting reports say the man is on paid or unpaid leave, but he’s currently off duty as Trump’s teleprompter operator, a job he had been doing for a decade, according to ABC News.
Perez is reportedly in talks to settle with the CFTC, the so-called regulator of prediction markets. The government declined to open a criminal investigation, according to reports.
