Matthew Broderick Embraces His Inner Shill In New Gambling Ad

Published on June 18, 2026

Movie star Matthew Broderick appears in a gambling ad for Hard Rock Bet, where a woman quickly wins an enormous jackpot on an online slot machine.

It’s a ghastly advertisement and also extraordinarily boring.

In a press release, the Florida-based gambling operator says that “maybe the most rebellious thing you can do today is take five minutes for yourself.” The ad encourages people to “embrace their inner rebel.”

Those five minutes apparently involve using an online slot machine.

In the 21st-century dystopian USA, being a rebel actually means being controlled by your phone and a gambling product.

The 30-second spot is a grisly reminder of atrocious advertising in the legal U.S. gambling market.

Gambling addiction is highly associated with risks of suicide and self-harm.

Virtually countless celebrities and athletes have endorsed online gambling products in the ruthless U.S. regulated market. Americans lost $27 billion to these harmful products in 2025.

Some people can play without harm, but industry revenue is powered by hardcore users. Some users are destroyed financially.

The Broderick appearance in the Hard Rock Bet ad closely followed Timothee Chalamet appearance in a Kalshi ad. NFL reporter Erin Andrews also recently endorsed FanDuel for so-called “responsible gambling.”
